Selah Tames the Lions
Updated: Sep 19, 2017
After a lazy start in a smokey Friday night, the Selah Vikings, led by Junior QB Cameron Ditter, avenge last year’s bitter defeat to take down the Lakeside Lions of Seattle 55-41.
The Vikings started out slow in the first quarter trailing 13-6. Selah scored again by the duo of Maleek Morfin and Cameron Ditter for a 12 yard touchdown pass. It seemed that the Lions were going to blaze right by the Vikings with a halftime score of 31-13. But after a speech by Selah Coach Scott Ditter and Coach Weeks in the locker room that inspired all, the team walked down the hill with fire in their eyes ready to finish the game they wanted to. And that was exactly what the Vikings needed to begin a comeback.
Out of the gates to start the second half, the Vikings got a good return and marched down the field. Junior RB Jake Weber capitalized the Vikings quarter with his first of three offensive touchdowns. With little amount of players on the sidelines for the Lions, the Vikings began to close the gap as Junior QB Cameron Ditter had ran for one touchdown and threw for another in the second half. Weber ran for two more touchdowns and added an interception return touchdown in the second half as the momentum shifted towards the Vikings. With the Selah defense excited and energized, the sidelines gave the guys on the field the support they needed to shut down the Lions. Vikings seemed to blaze by Lakeside, despite an 18-point deficit at halftime.
QB Cameron Ditter went 13/33 for 173 yards passing. He also added 50 yards rushing on 13 attempts. RB Jake Weber had 75 yards rushing with 8 attempts as fellow RB Sam Skeen had 55 yards rushing in 16 attempts. WR Maleek Morfin was targeted 4 times and had 54 yards receiving with 1 receiving touchdown. WR Andrew Hall also had a spectacular night with 3 targets and 85 yards with 1 receiving touchdown. Selah had 356 total yards with 172 of them passing and 183 rushing yards. This was short of the Lakeside total of 473 yards, but despite the difficulties, Selah persevered and pulled off a victory that nobody saw coming.
The Vikings play the Rangers of Naches Valley on Friday the 8th at Naches High School.
