Selah XC at Bellevue
Updated: Nov 14, 2017
After a tremendous league meet in Prosser on Thursday, the Vikings cross country teams departed at 5:30 Saturday morning for the Bellevue Invitational at Lake Sammamish. A warm, sunny, and accomplishing day awaited them.
The Lady Viks had a fantastic day in the office knocking off the 3rd-ranked Cedarcrest Red Wolves. Senior Captains Andrea Cox and Emma Smith led the charge in the open 5,000 meters - clocking a 25:20 and 25:45. In the JV 5k, Freshman Kyrsten Callahan crossed first for the Vikings in 40th; following closely in 44th and 45th were Seniors Maggie Ballew and Kendyl Fitzsimmons. To cap off the day, the Vikings varsity, highlighted by Molly Mattson's 19th place and 19:26 in a thick field of competition, pulled through and came up with enough points to edge 2A rival Cedarcrest.
The boys arrived in Bellevue coming off the first perfect score at any meet for the first time in less than two years. Jakob Daniels came in first for the Vikings in both open 5k's. Folllowing closely behind him was Wesley Heine with a great time of 20:32. The JV Vikings pulled off a respectable 13th place with Jon Watkins and Cody Salinas leading the pack. But even with some injury and thick competition, the boys claimed 16th place - not to far behind 3rd-ranked Cedarcrest. Senior leader and captain Daniel Callahan led the Vikings with an impressive 16:56.
The Selah Vikings cross country teams have a week break before competing this weekend in the Sunfair Invitational in Yakima.
