Viking Basketball Sweeps Ellensburg
On a snowy Wednesday night after Christmas, the Selah Viking Girls Basketball Team took down conference rival Ellensburg at home. The following evening, the boys did the same in the Sundome and dominated both sides of the ball.
Junior Ashley Shurtleff led the Lady Vikings in the steals and blocks categories with a huge first half and a double-double against the Bulldogs. She recorded 18 points, 10 steals, and 3 blocks. Point guard Kylie Wilkey made the most baskets out of everybody on the floor with a strong 19 points. Kayla Snodgrass also had a good night on the scoreboard with 9 points and a 100-percent free-throw percentage shooting 4 for 4 from the line. Ellensburg was led by Kalli Fahey's 13 points and Peyton Lyyski's 9.
After a hard-fought victory at home, the Lady Viks improve to 5-2 overall and travel to West Valley this Friday the 29th to take on the Rams.
The boys were led by hot-shooting Calvin Herting, who connected on seven made baskets - six of which 3-pointers. Elijah Pepper added 18 and Zak Donato added 14 to an all-around stellar scoreboard performance. Ellensburg got most of their points from Steele Venters who scored 16 points and Ty Denner with 13.
The 4th-ranked Vikings rolled to a 33-point victory in the Sundome and improve to 7-0 on the season. Next up for the Vikings is on Friday December the 29th at the Sundome again where the boys take on the 5th-ranked Lynden Lions.
